They’d never exchanged words beyond sorry, my son likes to talk and it’s okay, I do too, but then Hot Single Dad had given him a smile – all big teeth and crinkled eyes – and that was enough for him to become a regular cast member in Jake’s fantasies.
It wasn’t purely carnal desire, though. Jake genuinely felt an urge to get to know him – both of them, truthfully. Riki seems like a sweet kid, and his father seems nice, and he’d met so few people since he moved back to the city. Jake often finds himself wondering if he should call his grandmother for her banana bread recipe and knock on their door with a fresh batch in hand and see if they were interested in getting to know him, too.
He’s pretty sure there’s black mold in his walls – that’s what he tells himself to excuse the level of delusion he’s reached. He’s having black mold poisoning induced psychosis, but it’s fine, everything is fine.
Or, where Jake gets a glimpse of the kind of family he'd always wished for, and wonders if maybe, just maybe, they'd been wishing for him, too.

“What are you doing?”
It all stops immediately when he speaks. Sunghoon straightens up with wide eyes as he cleans his mouth with the back of his sleeve. The sleeve of the nice suit Sunoo handpicked. “Fuck, you scared me.”
Had it been a different scenario, Sunoo would have probably laughed. Sunghoon was usually so hard to scare. “I thought vampires had better hearing than humans, you couldn’t hear me coming?”
“No, I wasn’t… -I didn’t-”
The moon shines, bright and beautiful, over Sunghoon’s flustered face. And Sunoo's heard the full moon made people act crazy, but he had never actually believed it. Not until that moment.

Sunoo is the first person he texts in the morning. The only person he texts. He’s the one that Sunghoon sends pictures of cute animals or random screenshots of articles to. They eat most of their meals together, Sunoo has a section in his closet, and Sunghoon knows all of his favorite songs. It’s too much, he knows it’s too much, that he’s going to go insane if he keeps running head first into this, if he keeps blindly going through it without a single score to point him in the right direction—but what else can he do? He’s in too deep. He was in too deep that first night they met at the party, when Sunoo kissed him and he tasted like artificial peach and smelled like the spicy sweet cologne that he puts on every morning.
