    Summary

He had asked Gaunt about this the previous night, when he could tell that he was sore and spent but so damnably uncreative where sex was concerned. Gaunt had snapped that he talked too much so Ellwood had tried to be gentle, tried not to lose himself completely. But that sort of restraint wouldn’t do for tonight, not when three nights from now they would either be dead or sleeping in a dugout.

Not when there were still so many things they hadn’t tried.

    Summary

“Oh, yes. I've been a guest at her committee on several occasions.”
“How pleasant to see you free of the witness stand.”
The razor-thin line between hate and contempt is indifference. Ironically, it’s the one and only line they never seem able to cross, trapped in a privately public dance on a knife’s edge… worlds, memories, and lives left bleeding.

    Summary

The way his gaze had followed her around the room the night of Sculdun's party hadn't gone amiss nor had the way he had spent the evening trying to provoke a reaction from her, Mon had brushed it off as reading too much into it. But now, as she finds herself in his presence the following afternoon and he tries again to bait and provoke her, she wonders if perhaps there was something else in it, that something being desire.

    Summary

It’s not like the things she writes about.

In her novels, the men are silent. Rutting and eager but quiet; they use their mouths to bed the heroines in her book, but by the time they fall into bed - or onto desks, or into too tight coat closets and clawfoot bathtubs - they are silent. They growl and grunt and gasp and roar, but for the most part, the men Lizzie writes about are the strong, silent type.

    Freddie is not.

Freddie, it seems, likes to talk.
