Buffy says, tonelessly, “Great, you’re here.”
Because why not? Life was already weird enough. Spike laughs, low and throaty. She watches as he shifts his weight to lean against the tombstone: one long, graceful leg crossed in front of the other. Moonlight kisses his hollow cheekbones. Spike follows her obvious gaze, raising an eyebrow, the cheekiest, infuriating grin nearly tugging at his lips. Buffy shakes her head, turns her heel, and walks the opposite direction.
Her cheeks burn as she quickens her pace.
“Leaving so soon?” Spike calls after her, hand fumbling inside his pants pocket to find his lighter.

Instead the guy continues, ”And most of them are straight, so that doesn’t really help me pick up anyone.”
