    He remembered their return to the Shire. He remembered finding Sharkey in Bag-End. He remembered moving into Bag-End with Frodo, the long nights in front of the fire while Frodo wrote in the big red book in the next room.
    Surely all that had happened. Surely he hadn’t dreamed it.

    Despite getting all the happily ever after that he could want, Sam gets taken back to Rivendell. Not to the start of the quest, when the fellowship was formed and they began their journey into darkness. No, this was in the final days, on their journey home. They’d defeated the darkness, they’d run the evil from Middle Earth, and there was so very little left to do before he and all the company found rest.
    The heartbreak they’d found in the Shire had been so very small compared to the trauma of the whole quest. And it had all turned out alright in the end, after all.
    Was he really supposed to be changing the peace at the end of his story?
