Sae grew up knowing the feeling of sand between her toes, how the open sea would sound in the early morning when the tide was still too high to swim in, and the waves were so rough they could drag you into its fauces in a second. She had been dragged, pulled, and thrown around by the ocean more times than she could be bothered to remember. As rough as the sea could be, Sae proclaimed her love for it at age 9 and never let go. Unlike football, it was a constant, no matter what place on earth you were in.
