“Our paths diverged long ago. It was… affection that held us together.” And it had been - or at the very least, it had been what had tethered Viktor so close to Jayce. A warmth without which he could not seem to shake the trembling of his hands. And Jayce had steadied them so often, a kindness in the uncaringness; the way he warmed his hands in his own on cold days, or the way he brought him coffee along with his own. Jayce had always given him warmth if nothing else, and now Viktor had nothing to give him in return. He thought he might feel sad about this, or perhaps this time the empty feeling was for the rage and despair in what was once his partner’s eyes. He found it hard to care where it had come from, or what it meant. It simply was; he could not deny it, but he could ignore it."
