A hand appears in his peripheral vision, hovering near his shoulder and pressing in ever so gently. Eugene startles upright, mortified, heart kicking into gear like it’s just been paged. His face heats.
“Sorry, sorry,” he says immediately, voice hoarse. “Long night.”
“No kiddin’.”

Eugene is an ER doctor who just got off a 24 hour shift. Babe notices when he almost falls asleep in the middle of the grocery store and helps him get home safe.
