As they moved up the final staircase to the third landing, Hermione said, “I can’t believe I forgot to ask, but who’s the second bloke?”
Melissa’s answer was drowned out by the roaring in Hermione’s ears as said bloke emerged from his room.
His grey eyes widened behind black horn-rimmed glasses she’d never seen before and his mouth fell open, a social faux pas he likely wouldn’t have been caught dead doing only a year ago.
She hadn’t seen him since testifying for his release at the Wizengamot in June but had honestly believed she never would again the few times she’d given it any thought.
“Do you two know each other?” Melissa’s curious question broke through the sound of crashing waves in Hermione’s skull.
“We…went to school together.”
