“You’re amazing, Steve. I don’t know why these girls don’t get it.” Steve shrugged. “They’re lucky,” Eddie added, softly.
He scoffed at that. He didn’t really mean to, it was almost subconscious, a knee-jerk reaction. Eddie looked personally offended.
“They are! Most of them would’ve killed for a date with you two years ago. I would’ve killed for one too, hell I still-” Eddie froze then.
Or: Steve getting stood up causes some feelings to come to light for both him and Eddie. It's hard to move on. Maybe they don't have to.
