Summary
“Y’know I really did think you were going to kiss me.” Eddie says. With all the grace of a five year old trying and failing to hold on to a secret. She kicks her sandals off, kicking them kind of close to the neat little shelf of shoes near the door.
Collins clicks a button on the side of her phone and the screen goes dark. She sets it down on the side table.
“What if I had?” she asks.
Thats not at all what Eddie fucking expected her to say.
Dulcie skims a bit off the top of a drug bust and Eddie catches her with her spoils.

'Right,' he says. 'She's requested to be put on the case as detective. She's got the credentials, and I understand our man's already been dead for fifty hours and counting, so I've allowed it.'
'Fuck no,' says Eddie, understanding. Can't be Big Eyes, she'd never have the stones. Horsehair. Fucking Horsehair.
'I don't recall asking for your opinion,' What's-his-dick snaps. 'O'Connel's on the case. Now get this wrapped up, Redcliffe.'

Summary
With both ma’ams away in Darwin, Abby’s left on her own to solve a serial graffiti case before it starts to affect Deadloch’s booming new murder-tourism industry. There’s lots of pressure coming from the mayor, and the general populace is as helpful as ever. Meanwhile, all Abby really wants to do is kiss a girl—namely Kate.

Kate smiled when she caught sight of the bakery bag. It was Abby’s favorite kind of Kate-smile, the one where Kate’s whole face lit up and her eyes turned an even warmer shade of brown. Abby’s heart started to race again because that’s just what her heart did when Kate smiled at her. Stupid heart.“Mm,” Kate moaned happily as she pulled the tart from the bag. “You’re too good to me.” The way she said it—Abby’s breath caught in her throat as if her lungs had forgotten how to work. All her vital organs were stupid around Kate.

When they'd first set out from Melbourne Eddie had been stuck with Collins' Beloved Wife wailing along to a succession of women playing weepy piano pop rock, which was at least in character, but their rule is apparently that the driver picks the music and this afternoon Collins has blessedly opted for sweet fucking silence. Intermittently interspersed with conversation, but conversation's easy to sleep through.
Until now, it seems.
"So, um," says Cath, and Christ this road trip has been going for two and a half days but Eddie already knows that tone.
