How dare he be shocked at his father not referring to the horse by her name. After all, his father doesn’t even call him by his name on many occasions.
“Son” is used in front of family members, and friends, and gatherings. “Boy” is used whenever Colt is irritated at him, so that’s the one the young boy hears the most. “Monster” is used in private away from his mother and society, so the man is not judged. Felix actually prefers when his father doesn’t call him by his name though because whenever he does, that is when the child fears him the most.

There's a difference between wet anger and dry anger. Dry anger is when you're done, over, and finished with everything; you're stern, you have a sharp voice, and an almost stone impression. Wet anger is when your voice shakes, you feel weak, you're frustrated. It's when you care too much. Izaya didn't want to admit it, but he cared too much.

"I see. So that's your decision." Arthur replied calmly before his next words caught Verlaine off guard. "If I can't convince you to come home, then I'll join you in your journey to a new one."

Verlaine stared at Arthur like the man had grown two extra heads and opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. He had just shot at him...and yet he wanted to help? It made no sense. Why? Why go through the trouble? Why was he so insistent on caring about Verlaine? Arthur had gone to take another step forward but stopped himself but simply spoke.
"I don't want to leave you to raise him on your own. And I don't want you to be alone either. If I return without you, the organization would question me too much and I'd rather not hurt my friend." Arthur explained before he smiled gently and held a hand out to Verlaine. "Will you allow me to become part of your plan?"

But how can you keep your distance when a crazy woman with glasses constantly torments you with lectures about titan snot, and the blond bastard becomes more and more intriguing every day?
This is how Levi found a place in the Survey Corps after the end of the "No Regrets" special episodes.
