Summary
It’s then that Aerith see’s the various cuts and scrapes littering both Tifa’s face and arms, mottled bruises to match. Drying blood clung to usually pale skin under her nose, smeared slightly- and Aerith spots more smeared blood on the back of Tifa’s hand. Ungloved. Weapons disarmed. Vulnerable, but not weak.
“Aerith, I-“
“Oh honey.” She hushes her immediately.
Aerith never bothered with personal space, her care was often displayed in gentle touches, shoulder squeezes, a hand on a knee or a forearm, arms wrapping around the other in a gentle but warm hug. Yet now- she hesitates, fingers freezing before she could touch a particular nasty bruise.
She catches the guilty look within Tifa’s eyes before she looks away, eyes downcast with shoulders slowly bunching up in what Aerith could describe as defensive and-
She can’t have Tifa blaming herself, not while she’s in this state.

“It’s not a big deal,” Tifa says, shrugging it off. “I’ve been breaking fingers and scraping up knuckles since I started training.” Master Zangan warned her once, before they began, but it never deterred Tifa. “It’s second nature now, honestly. The adrenaline usually keeps me from noticing.”
Aerith tuts her disapproval. “You’re just as bad as Cloud,” she chastises. “I’ll bet that finger broke all the way back in Midgar. You two are lucky I’m here to help now.”
After arriving in Kalm, Aerith shares a sweet, quiet moment with Tifa as she helps to heal her wounds.

Summary
Secrets are just one of many things sabotaging Aerith’s relationships, even if she doesn’t quite realize the extent of it. Tifa, too, has her problems, but most stem from a single core that she can’t seem to identify. Or maybe doesn’t want to. It’s okay, though, they’ll help each other figure it out. It’s not like there’s anything else pressing in on them.
