Summary
“Get home safe,” Buck says. Then, as always, he thinks: I love you.
Eddie goes very, very still. His breathing stutters to a stop. There’s a strange expression on his face, his mouth twisting in that way it does when he doesn’t know what to say.
Buck squints blearily at him. “What?”
A muscle in his jaw twitches once. Twice. The muted light illuminates the quiet movement of his throat as he swallows.
“What’d you just say?”
“Get home safe,” Buck repeats, a yawn overtaking the last word. “Why…?”
Or: the one where Buck, drowsy and delirious on pain medication, confesses his love to Eddie without realizing it.

Summary
At that moment, Eddie rounds the hallway, carrying a salad bowl. Just the sight of him makes Buck’s heart skip a beat or two. “What’s with all the squealing?” He says. “Did Santa come early?”
“You could say that,” Sophia whispers to Chris, who sniggers softly, but Buck has stopped paying attention to anything that isn’t Eddie as he finally lifts his head and meets Buck’s eyes.
His expression goes from shock to confusion to utter delight in a few seconds, and just like that, Buck knows Eddie missed him as much as he did.
“Hey, Eddie,” Buck says, flashing him his brightest smile.
or after Buck realizes this will be the first Christmas he spends without Chris and Eddie in seven years, he does the only logical thing– fly himself to Texas to surprise them

Dear stranger,
I heard about this program connecting soldiers back to America and thought I’d give it a try. I hope this letter finds you as well as it can and that I hear back soon.
Stay safe,

"Mr. Eddie?"
"Yes, sweetheart. Sorry, where were we?"
Eddie helps Phoebe with a few more math problems until he can hear her dad in the background.
"Did you call 911 again, Pheebo? What am I gonna do with you, huh?" Eddie hears what it sounds like the man doing a raspberry and Phoebe giggling before some static and then a gravelly, tired voice comes on the line. "Sorry, she does this—"
"I know." Eddie chuckles. "I'm Eddie, from the last time?"or:
Buck's daughter keeps calling 9-1-1 for help with her homework, Eddie is smitten and apparently 9-1-1 works better than Tinder.Series

Summary
While a lot of his teammates talk about hockey like it’s a transcendental experience, likening skating to flying, feeling outside your own body when you’re playing—for Eddie, hockey brings him back down to earth in a way that nothing else does. It might be what he loves most about the sport, the way it forces him to be so completely present and singularly-focused on the one thing he knows he can trust his instincts to get right.
“Did you watch this back yet?”
Second-most, Eddie amends, inside his head. What he loves most about hockey is currently pressing against him on the bench, waving an iPad in his face.
or; the ending of a season, and the beginning of something else.
