The flame caught her eye when she tipped it to the end of her cigarette. “I’m afraid Matilda won’t be taking private interviews,” she said, dropping the matchstick over the ledge. “But Caitlyn might.”

Summary
The picture Blackcliff Light cuts into the night sky can easily be illustrated with one word: imposing. The lantern flashes isophase at an interval of about three seconds atop it, and the air is utterly silent, save for crashing waves and the coastal winds. Caitlyn is no stranger to maritime architecture, and by that measure, she had hoped that this post would do her well.
She finds herself succumbing quickly to regret.

Summary
It falls short of a heart-to-heart. Had it been, Caitlyn’s would beg, don’t leave, please don’t give up on this, while Vi shouts back, I won’t! I haven’t!
This is digestible but it only scratches the surface. They speak and none of it is enough, it may never be. But every second is one spent together, with the tandem thunder of those hearts in Caitlyn’s ears. It begins to feel like eternity and a day will be plenty.

Summary
Not long ago she could have taken all ten targets in half of the time she’s been agonizing here.
Now, her hands feel foreign, a clear disconnect as if her body is no longer hers to command. She wants to put the gun down, carry herself home, and fall into bed surrounded in simple, human comforts.
It’s too late for this, and she’s in pursuit of nothing at all.

Nervously tapping her foot, Vi went through the accounts and the dozen or so reports. Her stomach growled, meaning her close reading had pushed them far into the afternoon. She waved Ekko off to go get them some grub, and leaned back in her stool at their research.
The robber appeared a few weeks into the proper start of summer. Not all the way to Freljord, but it was definitely the high country. No kill counts-a few wingings by a gun of some sort at long range. They’d announce, fire a warning shot, and either shoot anyone that tried to put up a fight or leave.

Vi, a bounty hunter from Zaun, is hired to capture the Gentlewoman Marauder of The River Pilt.
