Hawks has very little magic. Enough for a few pretty tricks here and there, a few spells to keep his house neat and his coffee warm. His magic is not powerful, but he has a quirk for power and finesse. So he watches other people’s magic. It's not bitterness or envy that has him watching, has him softly obsessing. It's awe and curiosity and joy and delight. It takes the spotlight off of him in a way that doesn't leave him itching to be back in it.
