Summary
Steve screwed his face up at the sheer injustice of it all, burying his nose in Bucky’s hair and pulling him a little closer against himself. “You don’t have to be so brave. You could… I’m sure the rest of us could-"
“Steve, it’s okay,” Bucky sighed. “I just need to figure out how to live with the damage, right?”
Steve let out a weary breath of his own. “Sure, Buck. It’s just so unfair.”
“Ain’t it always?" Bucky replied gently, squeezing Steve's hand against his chest. "You don’t deserve the shit that haunts you, plenty of folks don’t, but we’re haunted all the same. Nothing to be done about it, neither. All we can do is… try to do right by ourselves and our ghosts.”

Summary
Bucky was otherworldly, lips reddened and swollen from kissing him, hair mussed and face flushed. He was painfully beautiful as he smiled down at Steve, hand braced comfortably against his chest. It made Steve want, and fiercely so.
He moved to grip Bucky’s thighs tightly while he breathed slow and steady, trying to calm himself down. Steve had always been a ‘full steam ahead’ type of guy, and right now his lizard brain wanted to take, to taste, to feel up and use and revel in and … and plenty of things he needed to think twice about.

Summary
As an artist who liked sketching the human form and features, he’d met a lot of people that struck him as beautiful, including plenty of men. Yet never once had he clocked a craving to touch them, didn’t imagine himself in bed with them. At least, not that he’d noticed. And he would notice something like that, right?
Steve found himself wandering the chapel building, hands in the pockets of his slacks, thinking hard. So maybe he could see himself having something more with Bucky, but… but that would make him... queer? Which, Steve didn't have anything against being queer, but why was it JUST NOW coming up for the first time in his life? He’d never had cause to examine his sexuality, it had always been easy. Straight forward. As in straight.
He looked around himself and realized he’d drifted into his office. He locked the door out of sheer nervousness and began pacing as an entirely new, entirely dreadful idea struck him. He tried not to think it, he didn’t want to, but he couldn’t help himself from wondering if this was all just that hokey spiritual bond thing Bucky had explained. What if it was just Bucky’s natural magic messing with his poor simple human brain?
Fuck he was bad at feelings.

Summary
Incubus… a demon of lust. Steve fought the urge to roll his eyes- not at Bucky, but at the brutish reactions he’d obviously come to expect. Demon indeed. “Bucky, if you sought refuge in a chapel in hopes of healing, do you really believe you’re bad?”
He pulled his hand from Steve’s to swipe angrily at the wetness in his eyes. “I didn’t used to think that I was… I don’t know, something evil. I never used to tolerate any of that bullshit.” He pulled a face. “I didn’t… but…” something seemed to lodge in Bucky’s throat and he mouthed silently for a few seconds. When he spoke again, his voice was again reduced to a hoarse whisper. “If he wasn’t right about what I am, then how come it worked exactly how he wanted it to?" He blinked and fat twin tears trailed down onto his cheeks before he brushed them away. “If he wasn’t right about what I am, how come he was able to do this to me?”

Summary
Part II
Bucky’s eyes stayed glued to him as he moved awkwardly to the chair by the bed. “Plenty of people get nervous around religious figures, but I promise I’m not worth stressing over. I’m barely even a priest,” he tried to joke, trailing off lamely.
Bucky’s face remained blank, but when Steve cleared his throat nervously, one of his ears twitched. Unfortunately for the present situation, Steve had limited experience with unwilling guests. Even his more difficult conversations usually started because the other person was looking for someone to confide in, or at least talk to. Bucky displayed zero interest in chatting.
He wasn’t his first reluctant conversation partner, however, not by a long shot. He could be patient. He could be open and casual and hopefully approachable. Probably. “Um, is there anything you want to know about… about where you’re at or what’s happening? Do you have any questions for me?” Great job, Steve. Really great. He needed a different approach.
Maybe he should ease up on what he thought Bucky might want and resort to being himself. Then again, maybe he’d accidentally traumatize Bucky further. Being himself had backfired on him as often as not.

Summary
Part I
“Please, please I’m not safe with whoever you want to call, I just need a few hours. Please,” the man on the floor begged.
“Okay... Okay but If the person that did this is still out there and might hurt others or come after you, that seems like something to be proactive about," Steve tried, but the other didn't respond. "But, I understand if you’re too shook up for that quite yet.” He waited for a reply from the man for what felt like a long time before prodding again. “Would you let me... Can I try to help instead?”
The mystery man heaved a wheezing, trembling sigh that might have concealed a sob. “I’m sorry, but there’s nothing you can do. No one can.”
“Why not?” Steve pressed as gently as he could.
“Because,” this time his voice definitely came out as a whimper. A shaking, bruised and painfully thin hand emerged from the bloodied altar cloth, but what was most shocking were the dark claws at the tips of the fingers. The trembling hand paused for a moment, then pulled the fabric up away from the person’s face. A face that was crumpled with anguish but took Steve’s breath away for different reasons altogether. “I’m not human.”
