The world is loaded with reasons to not bother being who he really is, and plenty of people who'd rather he wouldn't. Cait tries to help, but Vi struggles to let her. His floundering leads him to a surprising conversation, and an important realisation. And also, happiness.

Maryam, Yakoba's cellmate, is an uptight, quiet noble-born whose status– and the plots around her– precede her even here. And their friend Borte is, well... Borte.
In their own ways, these three girls are drawn into political machinations and generational drama far above and beyond the more mundane dangers of surviving to Novice Sister status.
