Without thinking, Till reached out and harshly shoved the hand that had reached for Ivan's weak body away, Mizi sucking in a little breath of surprise as she drew back. His face flaming, Till apologised quietly.
"Sorry," he said, his own hand coming to rest on Ivan's chest, the thumping of his heart momentarily quelling a quiet anxiety in his chest.
"Don't be." Mizi's voice was understanding and when Till looked at her, he didn't see the girl he'd spent his entire life chasing. In her place, a friend and ally stood, offering him her hand instead. He reached out and grasped it, basked in the quiet understanding and nodded.

The prince shrugged and dug an ember toe into the stone in front of him. His voice was small, reminding Thanatos of the sleepy way Zag used to hold onto his robe after a nightmare when they were small. “I dunno. You’ll be busy with soul collecting. You might not have time to see me anymore. Achilles told me it happens when friends grow up. They grow apart, become busy.”
His heart thudded unevenly at the sadness the prince couldn’t quite keep out of his words, despite the effort. “Zagreus,” Than said and reached out again to place a hand on the prince’s shoulder. “You’re my best friend. I’ll always come back for you, okay? Just wait for me.”
