Izuku sat at the far end of the table from the kitchen, wedged between Todoroki and a still-half-asleep Kaminari, and focused on his rice bowl with the kind of intensity usually reserved for life-or-death combat situations. He did not look up. He did not track Kacchan's movements through his peripheral vision. He did not notice when Kacchan sat down three seats away, close enough that Izuku could have reached out and touched him if he'd been willing to stretch.
He was not willing to stretch.
Izuku has been turning this over in his mind for so long... Amidst the fragile calm that followed the wars—a calm that is only just beginning—the weight of everything left unsaid between them has become harder to ignore.

If you asked Izuku Midoriya if Valentine’s Day was an important holiday to him, you’d get a painfully diplomatic answer, stuttered all the way through.
It’s not because he wants to be a downer or an anti-romantic; romance to Izuku is simply not a priority. If he were to be in love, which he definitely thinks he could be one day, romance would be a quotidian little thing, settling itself over ‘good morning’s and ‘let’s eat together’s like a layer of dust on family heirlooms.

Everyone knows alpha/alpha mates aren't really a thing. Maybe not completely unheard of but certainly rare, and the idea of BONDED alphas is just freaking laughable. It's common knowledge they don't work, widely accepted because biology dictates and blah blah blah. Alphas set off all the wrong instincts in each other, rutting becomes downright dangerous, the whole thing is historically a disaster.
...So how the hell have Katsuki and Izuku managed to wake up with claiming bites???

And that's the whole thing, isn't it? Two different sides. Katsuki will be alone on the stage. Alone in his dreams of being a film star. He hates that some naive part of him wanted them to come up together. Be one of those iconic acting duos dominating the screen–together and separately. Is it that crazy, though? They started this journey together. Spent it together for a third of their lives at this point. How will he do this without him?
Will he even see Izuku anymore?
Katsuki stiffens, bitterness creeping its way up, inevitable. "Hm. Sounds familiar."
Izuku's brow quirks, a blank expression masking over.
Katsuki just chugs the rest of his beer, exhaling when he finishes. "Sounds like Deku."

At some point, Izuku had to stop. Unable to help himself, his fingers loosened around the washcloth and his palm came to rest flat over Katsuki’s chest, right over his heart.
Thump Thump Thump, Katsuki's heart fluttered miraculously beneath his touch. It was a second chance Izuku didn’t deserve. His thumb hovered at the edge of his scar, where his pale, smooth, perfect skin gave way where evil had mercilessly shredded through. Before and after, separated by such an easy line.
He swallowed hard, his throat tightening around a cry, trying to ground himself in the fact that Katsuki was here, alive, that none of those scars had taken his Kacchan away from him. They only created new patterns on the beautiful body that Izuku would wash clean.
