    Summary

Waves of color permeate the air, that buzz in his head growing louder and he hisses in pain, leaning heavily against his cane. He feels rooted to the spot as something emerges from the spattering of colors, a flashing light that nearly blinds him. It grows and grows, shimmering like starbursts, sparking wildly. He squeezes his eyes shut and something splutters with a pop, fizzling almost violently in the air.

He opens his eyes and there is a man before him, falling to his knees with a shuttering gasp, hands gripped tight around the arm of a hammer. All Viktor can see is shaggy dark hair and tattered clothes before amber brown eyes are staring wildly up at him, bloodshot and wide—

    And familiar. So, so familiar.

Viktor would know him anywhere, anywhere at all, just by those eyes.

(Or, a feral Jayce drops into the lap of a Viktor who has yet to invent Hextech.)

    Summary

The commander’s attire declared I do not need to blend in. It symbolized an infallible, well-earned confidence, one which mirrored the unruffled assurance of Liyue Harbor: a shining beacon for the infected to target or marauders to plunder, and yet hardly shaken by the prospect.

Childe was overwhelmed by the sight.

The rumors regarding the Prime of the Adepti weren't lies; in fact, it could be said that they were an under exaggeration, because Childe had never met anyone that could stun his entire being into pure static quite so effectively. Pre-apocalypse or otherwise.

    “Wow.”

Childe’s tongue was hindered by sedatives, sure, but that comment left his lips with embarrassing ease. Way before the Harbinger could recognize how his first impression with the faction superior, the individual who would most likely murder him, was less-than-inspiring.

The man known famously as Morax raised a stern brow at Childe's deferential mumbling before speaking directly to him, in that deep, sonorous, way-too-distracting kind of voice. "And you are?"

    Smitten, the Harbinger thought hopelessly.

Lonely nights are best spent over pots of tea in good company. In terms of tea, Zhongli already knows what he likes. In terms of company - he makes a discovery.

    Summary

Childe knows that something isn't right, really. Zhongli deals in half-truths like a currency and smiles as sharp as a blade in the back. But he also looks Childe in the eye, and maybe he would let Childe press him down into the grass, and let himself be kissed and be killed.

It’s hard to define, but it’s a little like this: Zhongli’s blade in his back or Zhongli’s mouth on his cheek would be acts of violence equally pleasant to bear.

    Summary

Abruptly, Zhongli feels displaced, eating a dish he created, but cannot recognise, like someone had dropped him in a Liyue that he hadn’t spent the last thousand years safeguarding. Zhongli spends the rest of his meal ruminating on that piece of Jueyun chili: that very sharp, very cutting pain descended from a genome that is already extinct.

“And is that not enough?” Childe asks. “Isn’t it enough to just do what you can?”
