Tommy and Alex meet in salty waters and touch for the first time under the goddamned mole. It is cold, and wet, and Tommy feels feeble as he barely manages to pull Alex from between the capsizing boat and the pier. Alex's eyes are green green green and Tommy's chest has never hammered this hard. He blames it on the sinking ship, distant screams, and whirring of the German planes in the distance.
