Summary
Angel’s face was moving down, backlit and unrecognizable, but coming closer, closer, closer until Buffy knew what he wanted. “Forever,” he said.
She surged forward at the promise and met his kiss with equal fervor, greedily cupping his jaw.
“That’s the whole point.” Spike’s cool fingertips danced beneath the hem of her shirt and dragged up her spine. “Couldn’t stay away if I tried.”
Buffy blinked the sunlight from her gaze, gripping Spike’s shoulders to steady herself. Even on the beach, he wore his big leather coat.
Who had she just kissed?

Having Dawn around as flesh and blood instead of smoke and mirrors changed things. Now, Buffy faces her senior year with a softer Spike and a fresher Faith.

Drusilla hated Miss Edith and the burning guppies that had swum circles around her sweet William’s head for lying to her, and the birdie for nesting in little Spike’s chest. He was empty now. The bird’s greedy beak had gobbled up all the best bits of Dru’s boy and left her with nothing but a shell that hated her right back. And she hated him for that, too.
He wasn’t supposed to hate her. That wasn’t what he had been made for. Her boy had been made for love. It was all he’d ever been good for, and that much had been true long before Drusilla drank him down and made him new. But now he wouldn’t even do that right. He only pretended.
She hated his pretending most of all.
