Summary
“Look,” Shuuichi begins, his unease and anxiety since waking up, and his irritation at not being told about Rantarou spilling out of his mouth, “I don’t know what’s happening here. But this is all crazy. I just want to know where Rantarou is, and you — you telling me fairy tales instead of where my brother is, is really just cruel.”
“I’m not lying, or telling stories, or anything like that,” Komaeda replies, hands up defensively, “but I understand where you’re coming from. I do, promise. I’ve been doing this for hundreds of years, so I get why you’re upset. You’ll understand with time.”
Wait.
“‘Hundreds of years’?” Shuuichi asks, eyebrows shooting into his hairline. Komaeda laughs, looking sheepish.
“You caught me. Hold on, let me reintroduce myself.” He waves, smiling brightly. “My name is Nagito Komaeda, and I’m the God of Luck. I’m one of the two camp counselors here at Camp Hope’s Peak, a summer camp for demigods, and I have been for a long time.”
“Okay. I’m still passed out after getting hurt. Okay.” Shuuichi takes in a deep breath. “Time to go to sleep and wake up in a hospital, next to Rantarou, with Byakuya and Makoto telling me I’m grounded. Okay. Nice meeting you.”

“Ah, Nanami-san, I really can’t make you do this…!”
This is at least the third time since Nagito arrived at Chiaki's front door that she’s heard a breathy, nervous squeak of complaint come from the same head she’s currently trying to work a hairbrush through.
Nagito’s hair is…pretty tangled. But Chiaki’s definitely dealt with a rats-nest or two after a late night of gaming; she’s got this. “I don’t really understand what you mean. And hey, I keep telling you…call me Chiaki.”
“Chiaki-san,” Nagito corrects forcefully, the voiced edge with which her name is said undermined a decent amount by how nervous said voice still is, “I think I’ve made a mistake in coming here. I’m so embarrassed I feel a little like throwing up!”

Summary
The sun is bright. The air is warm. Everything is covered in a scratchy layer of sand. Something pounds loudly and distractingly like a heartbeat hooked up to a bullhorn.
And above all else, as he tries to catch his bearings, Hajime Hinata is fucking confused.
He can’t see the sun — while he can feel the exposed skin of his arms baking beneath it, something soft and with a smell and origin he can’t place keeps his face and his eyes alike from burning to a crisp. Beneath his shirt he can feel himself sweating enough to leave him decidedly clammy and gross, clueing him in when he’s not got a clue about anything else that it’s humid and muggy…wherever he is. There’s sand in his hair, under his fingernails, beneath his clothes, in his mouth somehow. And that pounding, it appears, would be his brain, an internally-beeping billboard signaling what the hell is going on every few seconds.
“…Hey, can you hear me? Are you okay?”

Summary
Three months. That’s how long Byakuya Togami has been sealed inside of this place. Not a long time, not in the grand scheme of things, but certainly long enough for him to have come to several concrete conclusions.
One: endless, aimless downtime is as useless here as it has always been.
Two: in recognition of this downtime, making his way through the library’s extensive collection one book at a time is the most constructive use of what remains of Hope’s Peak Academy’s amenities.
And three: when not caught in the crosshairs of his classmates, despite his numerous and severe misgivings about this entire situation, he can achieve something that could almost, possibly, be peace.
In the quiet of the library, Byakuya’s following exhale comes out slightly heavier, a barely-there acknowledgment of his own wry thought. He turns a page in his book. As if.

‘Friends’, huh?
Something like friendship has been about as far as possible from Hajime’s mind since waking up in this strange situation. At the best of times, lingering on stuff like that feels a little more embarrassing than Hajime would ever really bother with. If anything, maybe their circumstances should dissuade friendship, but…
But he thinks of Togami’s carefully-maintained confidence, even through something as incomprehensible as this. Of most everyone’s generally high spirits in the past day, despite everything that’s going on. Of the…innate kindness in Nagito’s decisions to stay with Hajime after he passed out on the beach, to stick around and introduce him to everyone, to…smile at him from across the park, even as he flusters beneath his embarrassment at being called out.
Whether that’s friendship or not…Hajime can’t really say. But at least for right now, he sees very little reason to not at least try to return the favor, when the effort is already being extended to him. “Saionji…speak for yourself. Nagito might be right.”

Summary
Shuuichi wants to go in, he does. (He wants a lot with regard to Gonta, if he’s being honest, but that’s not a thought he can even think of dealing with right now). But, ah. The bugs.
He’s fully aware of the fact that the bugs and Gonta come as a unit — one follows the other. Which is fine! He likes Gonta — a lot, actually, and Shuuichi feels himself smile just a bit at the thought — and he’s already resolved to do this despite the memory of the bugs crawling in his hair and clothes and wherever else they'd managed to wriggle into at the time.
But that's not what's important right now. What is important, is the question that led him here to Gonta's lab in the first place:

There’s a beat of hesitation, but Evan lets go of the red metal and looks headlong into the ground awaiting him.
All is calm, and he takes a step.
“What the fuck.” The stillness of the night is shattered to pieces, and Evan scrambles desperately to take hold of the bridge again. The loss of the silence brings about the loss of control, and within moments he’s hyperventilating, hands sweating and heart racing.
Evan glances over his shoulder and in the darkness can make out a slight, tall figure standing at the very edge of the treeline.
“I-I’m sorry?” Evan chances in response, eyes on the person as they step forward.
And, well. Of all the people he expected to see tonight, Connor Murphy was not one of them.
