Summary
Wen Qing sat silently in the prison beneath Carp Tower, her brother in the cell next to her, the night was nearly over. It was probably 3 or 4 in the morning. Sometime after sunrise she and her brother would be taken to a public square and executed.
Wen Qing was attempting to calm her mind enough to meditate when she heard the creak of the heavy door leading into their wing of cells. She rose to her feet, tense. There was no reason for a guard to be coming for them this early. Her stomach twisted with unease. Had something happened? Had they found Wei Wuxian? Or was something more sinister about to occur? Jin Guangshan had a notorious reputation, and many of his men were no better. If they thought they could take their pleasure with her, she would make them regret it.
White robes appeared in front of her cell. Wen Qing blinked stupidly, unable to comprehend the sight in front of her.
“Hanguang Jun?”
