    Langa's body sagged at his touch, but he kept leaning against the wall. At this point, Reki was absolutely sure that something had gotten him thinking about his father. If the problem was anything else, he would have said so by now, and besides -- nothing else made Langa retreat inside himself like this. 

    "I just meant... there's nothing you can do. Nothing anyone can do," Langa said.

    Reki's heart felt warm with the way Langa went out of his way to spare his ego, even when he was hurting, even when each word out of his mouth sounded like it exhausted him to say. "There's not nothing I can do," Reki said. Langa's eyes flickered curiously to him. "I know I can't... fix it, but... But I could... I dunno, hug you nonstop? Or just listen, or help take your mind off it, if you wanted."

    Langa finally stood up straight again, his expression unreadable, but distinctly changed from the mask of apathy he'd been wearing all day. "'Take my mind off it,' huh?"
