Summary
“Buck.”
There’s a pause, and then the sound of a breathless, ragged sob. Not the kind Buck lets out when he’s trying to play it off, not the kind he hides behind a laugh. No, this is raw, wet and broken and small.
“Can you pick me up?”
Bobby’s chest cracks open.
Buck’s voice is hoarse, like he’s been crying for hours –or screaming into a pillow. It’s frayed at the edges, worn down to the nerve. And it’s not just sadness Bobby hears in it– it’s fear and terror.
“I want to go home,” Buck whispers next, and it shatters something deep in Bobby’s gut.or: The 118 teaches Buck that family isn't about owing someone your organs, but about who brings you pie when you've given too much of yourself away.

Summary
Everyone knows that when you touch someone who's going to be important to you for the first time, you'll leave a mark on them. It's not just romantic love; parents and children, siblings, close friends all share marks too. At least, they do in theory. Maddie's the only person who's ever touched Buck and left anything behind.
.
It’s funny, growing up knowing your parents don’t care about you. The kind of funny that would get Evan uninvited from sleepovers, which is why he always changes into his pajamas in the bathroom. The kind of funny that he’s not allowed to ask his parents about. The kind of funny that makes Maddie look at him so sadly sometimes, when she doesn’t realize he can see her out of the corners of his eyes. -

Summary
Buck moves in on a Saturday. It’s a small house, but that’s okay. With each successive move Buck had gotten rid of more and more belongings. He doesn’t have much left at this point.
Eddie helps him move boxes and furniture from storage to his truck and from his truck into his new house. With a lunch break, the entire process only takes three hours. It’s all a bit anticlimactic. Eddie offers to help him unpack, since they have so much time, but the idea settles too heavy in Buck’s stomach. Moving boxes is one thing. Moving in is something else entirely.
This is the first place that Buck has ever lived in that he picked out for himself. He’s feeling a little precious about that. He doesn’t want someone else to decide which drawer his utensils should be in. He’s had enough of other people telling him where to put things.
Or:
Buck buys a fixer-upper, grieves Bobby, and works through his loneliness. Tommy helps. -

Summary
Tommy shook hands with Eddie before turning to Buck, who he’d hear plenty of stories about over the years. Howie had once described him as a human golden retriever and Tommy had to admit, the man wasn’t wrong. His blonde curls, bright blue eyes, and the way he was practically bouncing back and forth on the tarmac all distinctly reminded Tommy of a puppy.
“I’m um– Evan,” Evan introduced himself, his hand shooting out to shake Tommy’s eagerly. “Evan Buckley.”
It was probably just his eyes. Tommy had always been a sucker for blue eyes.
“Tommy Kinard,” he replied, clasping his hand around Evan’s own.

Summary
He completely pulls the charger from the wall as he fumbles to put in his passcode. He doesn’t know who to call first. Everyone is busy, carrying on with their lives and Buck is stuck here in the loft with the terrifying ghost of his childhood like an omen. Out of the corner of his eye he catches the Crooked Smiled Man now standing in the dark entrance way to his bathroom. He swallows around the taste of blood in his mouth, hands shaking, useless as his list of contacts blur beneath the burn of tears.
Eddie Eddie Eddie
He doesn’t know where the feeling comes from, but it’s sudden and sharp and excruciating. Eddie is the first name at the top of his list, his most recent calls and texts, and he doesn’t hesitate to hit the call button.
