    Summary

The air is thick with blood.

It clings to his senses like molten tar, heavy on his tongue and stinging at his nose. It has every instinct within him flaring with agitation, nearly bringing his steps to falter, but not Maekar’s. The man strides ahead of him with a single minded focus.

His letter had found Duncan half a moon ago, thrust into his hands by a messenger trembling with exhaustion.

Feral is the word the prince had used to describe his son, penmanship steady and as polished as the man himself. He’d requested Duncan’s presence, citing a need for assistance, and he’d known not how to deny him.

    Summary

"I don't need you," Aerion snaps, quick and whip-like. Now that his hands are freed his hackles have raised once again. "I will go where I please, and it needn't be any concern of yours."

Duncan's brow furrows, indignation rising within him. "I just saved your life."

"You saved me nothing but time." Aerion limps to one of the dead knights and starts ridding him of his cloak and boots. "I had the situation well in hand."

"Didn't look like it to me," Duncan murmurs sourly. Its petulant, like that of a child, but he doesn't care.
