“There’s an easy fix for that,” Phainon murmurs, quietly, as scorching fingertips melt his common sense. “You could borrow a night with me.”

Dead souls find themselves prisoners to the purgatory until they collect enough coins to pay off their debts and reincarnate. Phainon searches for money and the lost memories of his past life, and ends up finding a man that might be the key to both.

"I feel bad, Cas. He keeps telling me it's fine and we should keep going all night, but he's clearly tired from all the activity before I am! It's been two weeks of this, should I tell him that we should stop?"
Castorice opens her mouth, then closes it. She takes out a notebook and a pen to scribble something down, before turning back to him.
"…What exactly are we talking about here?"
"Mydei's stamina! Apparently, it's been harder for him to keep up with me without his immortality! Do you think I've been too rough with him?!"
Phainon is met with reminders that Mydei no longer has his flaw of immortality. The realisation is more significant than he had expected.

“Finish the story,” Phainon prompts, and it comes out kind of quiet, kind of weird.
“He fell in love with a warrior in Okhema,” Mydei tells him, sliding a hand under his pillow. “They were equals in just about everything, and that’s… significant to a Kremnoan. He died sacrificing himself to buy that warrior time to save the city.”
“That sounds like something a hero would do to me.”
“Maybe,” Mydei grumbles. “A real hero wouldn’t leave the one he loves to fight alone.”
