Jungkook looks over and Yoongi and then starts laughing.
“Sorry, you probably weren’t- uh. You probably weren’t expecting your day to go like this when you woke up this morning.”
“When I woke up this morning, I was expecting to have to fight off a kidnapper,” Yoongi says blandly. Jungkook smiles. He squeezes Yoongi’s hand. Yoongi wonders a little bemusedly if they’d really both risen from their seats without letting go.
“Would you have fought me, Yoongi-hyung?” Jungkook asks and his voice slips into something much cuter than usual. It doesn’t seem like something Jungkook does, be purposefully cute, although Yoongi is pretty sure most of the things Jungkook does are incredibly and objectively cute in one way or another. It’s just not usually on purpose. It makes him laugh and shove at Jungkook a little with his free hand.
“Your biceps are the size of my head, I would have died.”

But Yoongi was a pro at futility, if his pathetic excuse of a life that he still fought for said anything. He’d steal the self-deprecating comments that poured from Jeongguk’s mouth, replaced them with, you did so well, Jeongguk. You’re so talented. Everything you do is amazing. They call you cheonggukjang because they’re fucking assholes and're threatened by you. You’re incredible. Gifted. Hardworking. Handsome.

they stare at each other for an inordinate amount of time, it feels—that jeongguk with a tea cup in his hand and a massive white t-shirt on. and jeongguk had just assumed that if this was a dream, he would be the only jeongguk. and if this wasn’t a dream and he’d somehow ended up here for real, he would have switched places with himself or just turned up in the other’s place.
but. that’s clearly not the case.
“um,” says jeongguk, this jeongguk. “hello?”
and jeongguk—that jeongguk—screams.
