    (Not me writing yet another HTTYD fic based around Hiccup and Toothless being the best friends ever + Hiccup having chronic pain)

     

    "Sorry, bud. I'll be better once I've warmed up a bit."  His best friend chuffs at him, unimpressed, and a rumble of lightning-fire rises up his chest, a faint glow lighting up his broad neck from within. For Hiccup, it's like standing next to a just-banked fire, all embers and coals with the occasional lick of flame.

    It helps, both warm and home-familiar-them.

    Hiccup sighs, sinking further into Toothless' side, shamelessly draping himself over his best friend's neck, luxuriating in the warmth of it all, in the rumbling that shudders through them both.

    But they can't stay still forever, so eventually Hiccup pushes himself upright once again, determined to get on with the day.
