Then, without warning, Xie Zheng did something that nearly shattered Gongsun’s understanding of reality.

“I’m sure you miss your sister,” Xie Zheng said gently. “Here, have some.”
Gently. There was no threat, no swatting of hands, and no death look.
Gongsun’s jaw nearly touched the floor.
Then—worse—Xie Zheng personally fed the candy to Chang Ning, with a softness he had never seen.
Gongsun felt something inside him scream.
This was not the man he knew. This was some kind of… strange spirit wearing his friend’s face. Had he been possessed by the spirit of tangerine peel demon?
He wanted to protest. He really did.
