Summary

Max can tell precisely when Charles begins to wake up. His heartbeat picks up, and so does his breathing, both reassuring sounds drowning out the way the wind outside pushes against the stone walls. He shifts slightly, his foot flexing where it’s pressed to Max’s, the scratch of fabric and whisper of fur heralding the change while his skin grows a little hotter under Max’s sensitive fingertips.
There’s the softest swoosh, then, and Max knows Charles opened his eyes.

He was speaking with Lord Sebastian Vettel, and kept touching his arm. He wore blue, not Ferrari red, a river of gossamer silk poured over his body. His bare arms were adorned with thin golden bangles that twinkled in the sun. He must be freezing. George watched Charles throw his head back and laugh. Lord Sebastian looked pleased.
If George knocked all those teeth out of Charles' head and left nothing but stumps and bloody gums, would Max still find him so pretty?
