Yachi picks at a hangnail, eyes fixed on the floor, and finally says what's been on her mind all along. “But doesn’t it bother you too? I mean, Kiyoko-san choosing him ahead of you?”
Nishinoya shrugs. “I always knew she would choose Ryu over me.” His mouth twists into a half-smile, fingers drumming his thigh. “Those two, yeah, anyone could see she liked him more, if they looked closely.”
“So why…” Yachi hesitates, unsure of how to phrase her question.
“So why chase after her, right?” Yachi nods, a little red in the face, and Nishinoya laughs. It is, she notices, a gentler laugh than she’s ever heard from him before. “It is always fun to chase something you can’t have, Yachi-san.”
A beat, while Yachi collects her thoughts. Nishinoya’s expression is a little faraway, somehow nostalgic, and so uncharacteristic of him that it makes her feel like–
“It’s not Kiyoko-san you’re thinking of when you say that, are you?”

Carved into the left wall of the roofless temple on the top of a hill, there are two names, a date, and a crudely cut heart in stone. They're barely visible after what seems like years of withstanding the elements, but when you look at them and in your cold, hypoxic, severely under-oxygenated state, you can imagine the two boys collapsing against the wall, pulling out a knife, marking the shrine with their names. When Harry was two and Vernon Dursley bought Dudley a toy car and Harry a fast food meal with a toy with parts he could choke on Petunia packed her things and got a divorce.
