“Don’t tell me that you’ve frozen to death already,” Kaeya tuts. He pats the young man’s cheek lightly, and when he does not budge, hovers a finger over his mouth.
Soft puffs of air are blown onto his skin. Alive, it seems, but barely. When Kaeya fiddles with the cloak to reach for his neck so he can check for a pulse, he pauses.
Etched onto the young man’s skin in blazing gold, right in the center of his throat, is the four-pointed star of Khaenri’ah.
Or, in the middle of a blizzard, Kaeya finds a boy with a four-pointed star on his throat and eyes that hold galaxies.
It changes everything.

The world around Albedo seemed to bite at his skin, snowflakes perching themselves upon his eyelashes as they weakly fluttered open, eyes flitting up to see the sky above him. It was snowing--the feeling of ice sharp against his palms and back of his neck. He had always known studying in a place like Dragonspine came with its risks, but how exactly had he ended up here? Most days were spent studying safely at his camp, temperature carefully controlled by a cozy fire; so how?
