Summary
Hinata Shouyou was a complete fanboy for the Volleyball player Kageyama Tobio. He watched all of his games in middle school and high school, watched him play on T.V. and he had nearly every issue of sports magazine the man had featured in.
He was practically a Kageyama encyclopedia.
So you can imagine Hinata's horror when Kageyama mysteriously disappears from the world of Volleyball and is suddenly outside his apartment and moving into his spare room.

Summary
So, yeah, Kageyama’s a jerk, but this is worse. Hinata prefers Kageyama being a jerk to whatever this is, this—cold-shoulder business where Kageyama barely talks to Hinata, and, apparently, can’t stand even being touched by him.
Hinata thinks it can’t get worse, but then Kageyama starts avoiding him. It’s obvious, because the two of them are attached at the hip and spend more time with one another at school than they do without one another. Kageyama stops eating lunch with him, stops racing him to the gym, stops walking home with him. It’s enough that he gets weird looks from the rest of the team, enough that even Tsukishima seems to know not to comment on whatever it is.
Hinata wants to know why. He doesn’t think he did anything in particular, except maybe when he stole Kageyama’s lunch a few weeks ago, but that’s par for the course. Even if that’s it, he can just buy Kageyama a new lunch in return or something—he just wants Kageyama to stop treating him like this, stop making his stomach churn with anxiety and his chest wrench with how empty it is.

Summary
For all their competitiveness and brashness in everything else, Kageyama and Hinata are shy about this. Everything is new and uncertain: the words and actions taste strange, like a foreign language on their tongues, but one they want to become fluent in nonetheless.
They get flustered every time the other is openly affectionate. They’re feeling out boundaries, discovering what's good and what isn’t; but in that vulnerability is an unparalleled intimacy.
Or: even they have their quiet moments.

Summary
it’s not as though kageyama will never play volleyball again. but as he watches the ball spiral toward a soaring hinata, still small and yet seeming larger than life as he jumps high above the net, kageyama realizes he might never play this kind of volleyball again: the kind of volleyball that makes him feel alive, heart thumping, stomach twisting; the kind of volleyball that makes him think of those words his grandfather once spoke to him—one day. one day, someone even stronger will find you. just wait. just you wait—
(or: on the night before their last national tournament, kageyama and hinata learn something about volleyball, about each other, and about endings and beginnings.)
