Summary
The phone rings for a long time, long enough that Jason almost hangs it back on the cradle before he can be faced with the daunting click of an answering machine, his knuckles already clenched white with how tightly he’s gripping the plastic, the cord looped around his fingers. His heart beats wildly against his sternum as the dial tone is cut off before he’s even able to move, line crackling in its connection, a brief silence on the other end that is worse than any worries of getting the machine. Then, a sound he hasn’t heard in two years echoes tinny through the landline, that low voice answering, “Salim Othman.”
In a testament to how much he has held on to thoughts of this man, simply hearing Salim’s voice again brings such a warmth to Jason’s chest, brings an unexpected sting of emotion behind his eyes. He breaks into an involuntary grin, sure that his tone betrays all of it as he says, “Hey, Salim.”
A slightly fluffy, slightly smutty reunion.
