Summary
Goody’s happy, and so is Billy, which is more important. It doesn’t really matter what Manu thinks. It’s not that he’s upset, but everything just seems to grate on him more: there are dog-eared books Manu doesn’t recognize on Billy’s kitchen table, a hand around Billy’s waist when they’re smoking outside, Goody at dinner, telling jokes that Billy laughs at silently, a soft curl to his mouth.
He’s not upset, he thinks, just a little jealous—the natural consequence of a friend coupling up, moving on. It just makes him feel particularly single, in a world made for couples, that Goody’s always at Billy’s side now, when Billy used to turn to him instead.

Summary
When he first came to America, he thought maybe that Americans did things differently somehow, that it was a matter of etiquette that he hadn’t quite grasped yet. But he found out soon enough that the difference lay with him, and not with Americans. All the world over, it seems, people introduce themselves with their full names, quick as anything, in hopes of finding the one person with it printed on their skin. White folk look at him, and it’s not a matter of that hope dying as much as it is an incomprehension that it could even be found there in the first place. No one gives their name to him because he doesn’t matter.
So the man gives him his full name, a proper introduction of the sort that Billy never gets anymore, and Billy lets the words sink in.
Goodnight Robicheaux.
He knows that name.

Summary
Goody likes to tell stories about how they met. He’ll say: “I ran into Billy on my way to Charms one day, just in time to see him hex three other boys in quick order. The stairs had moved on us again overnight, and I wandered into another dead end hallway to find Billy glaring down a whole pack of Ravenclaw boys."

Summary
Goody heads outside, shivers a little with the cold of it and draws his jacket in closer. The noise from the bar dims as the door shuts, and that’s when he sees he’s got company. One of the new guys that showed up tonight. Asian, which is a little unusual, and quiet, which is pretty standard. Most people don’t talk much until they’ve come to a few meetings or unless they’re close to fluent already, and Goody would bet money that this guy was having trouble grasping the basic gist of things. Curious.
Goody digs out a cigarette from his pocket, grins out a hello in the quick flare of the lighter. “Didn’t catch your name in there, sorry—I’m Goody.”

Summary
Goody’s got nothing but time on his hands these days, which is dangerous currency for a man used to a strict routine. The days sprawl out ahead of him, flush at first with the promise of all the things he never had time for before, but alcohol quickly puts a damper on that.

The one where Goody's struggling to figure out what to do with life post-military discharge, and wanders into a gym where Billy coaches.

Summary
She is not the Slayer and he is not the Slayer’s Watcher, but their roles are almost as old as human civilisation and they fall into them without even truly having to try. She kills twenty or thirty vamps a night, and he stands at her shoulder, twisting cheesewire between his fingers that he’s cursed with a spell five centuries old, a stake in his belt and blood between his teeth.
Joan Watson is a Slayer, and Sherlock Holmes is her Watcher.

Summary
“Okay, no,” Pooch says, holding up his hands, “there is no way I’m gambling for money against you and Cougar.”
Jensen frowns, leaning across the table to make wide, concerned eyes at Pooch. “Is it because we’re just that fucking good?” he asks.
“No.” Pooch knocks the edge of the pack once, twice against the table. “It’s because I’m pretty sure you can read each other’s damn minds.”

Summary
“Allmother?” Max asks.
“Hmm?” Furiosa asks, automatically.
“They call you ‘Allmother’,” Max says. “Met some Rocketboys last month that spat whenever they said it. Didn’t know they meant you.”
The look on his face suggested he was severely disappointed, as if he intensely regretted whatever he had done to the Rocketboys. If Furiosa knew him, which she suspected she did, Max regretted killing them so quickly.
