Akihiko slipped into his regular seat without a word spoken, he didn’t need to be greeted, he had come often enough. A dagger stabbed at his heart as he glanced to the side and knew that seat would never be filled again.
A gentle voice dragged him away from his thoughts teetering on a bitter storm of grief and guilt, “Oh, Akihiko-san, it’s good to see you!” The chef’s name had left his mind, pushed out by the busy life he led these days; there was little room for simple, fond memories like that, “Will Shinjiro-san be coming soon?”
after the devastating loss on october forth, akihiko skips out on the memorial, unable to face the loss alongside everyone else and is drawn to the one place shinjiro always frequents only to be confronted by the ghost he left behind

His being lurched forward, pulled into the canvas with that familiar feeling of weightlessness, gravity shifting around him until it no longer connected him to the floor but to the painting in front of him. When his vision cleared, he found himself floating in the Between.
In the back of his head, he heard Clea's exasperated sigh.
