Summary
Shane measured out his loosely packed protein powder, using the back of the knife to scrape the excess off the cup back into the container—careful to not add too much. A glint of light reflected off the knife, catching his eye. He stared at the silvery surface, realizing how long it had been since he looked at himself in the mirror.
He punched the button on the blender, letting the harsh, abrasive sound pull him out of his thoughts. The ingredients blended together until they turned into the same, bland, expected color as as it did every morning, perfectly under his control.
He brought it to his lips carefully, trying to ignore the sudden tightness in his chest. When it tasted exactly like it did the day before, he sighed in releif, hungrily drinking it down, feeling completely free. This was going to work.
He was always going to know exactly what he was eating.

Summary
The first sound Ilya hears is a thin, discordant symphony of beeps and whirs. Something vibrating.
The next thing he hears is…wet. A sort of shaking, gargling sound, that feels like the ugliest crying he’s ever heard. And through it, Shane’s voice.
“I’m with him now, mom. He’s— he’s not fine. He’s not. I know—”
Ilya wants to ask who's not fine, but he can’t feel his own body, his mouth, enough to ask.
“Yeah,” Shane is saying, only slightly calmer. “I know. He wasn’t breathing—"
Ilya knows there's a link, between the clinical musicality of medical settings, Shane’s audible, awful distress, and his own physical incapacity. It’s just, it’s so tenuous, and the air around him is so thick, so heavy. It would be easy, to sleep, a little.

Footage of the last game between Ottawa and Montreal is everywhere; it’s breached containment from the sports world, and now it seems like everyone is baying for Montreal’s blood. Except, Ilya is oblivious. Summary
Refusing to let Ilya ruin his career by signing with Ottawa, Shane chooses to really give their relationship a try and moves to Boston to live with Ilya and become a Raider. What follows is enough public scrutiny and backlash from his team that it has him questioning if he made the right decision. Until moments with Ilya and the Raiders show him exactly why he chose correctly.

Hayden’s eyes flickered to Shane as he sat on the bench, chewing on the edge of his mouth guard.
“Don’t fucking look at him,” Ilya insisted as he bent down for the faceoff.
“Excuse me?” Hayden mumbled, eyes darting back to him.
“You heard me,” he retorted, his tone clipped. “He’s not your teammate anymore; he’s mine. If you think Marlow is a problem to your game, wait until you see what I will do to your team if you hurt anyone on mine again.”
Hayden scoffed, dipping his head as he tried to focus on the game. Something about Ilya’s words still rang through his head though, sounding so definitive that he didn’t want to risk seeing what he was actually referring to when he said that.
The puck dropped again, and Ilya stole it before he could comprehend how quickly it happened.

Summary
After Rozanov pushes Shane away during the Olympics, Shane takes his friend from home up on an invitation to meet some of the other Olympic skaters. Joe grew up in Ottawa like Shane and had often been his go to support when, for all that he loved hockey, he needed a break from hockey players. Two Russian non-athletes somehow ended up in the mix of the increasingly racy Olympic Village party until the threat of homophobic violence has one of them calling for a friend.
Ilya is having a very bad time at Sochi and Svetlana calling him at 1am because Sasha is in the village getting into fights is not improving his mood. He is doubly unimpressed that Hollander is apparently at the party too. Maybe some conversations can’t be avoided.
