Summary
Maddie is fourteen when her brother dies, and two days later her parents pack their lives up into the car and tell her it’s time to go. Only, there’s something injured sitting in the back seat and nobody will tell her what it is.
Buck knows that he’s missing some years from his childhood and that the accident that took them from him is the same one that left him with patchwork scars all over his body. He just doesn’t realize that those years aren’t missing like a lost thing, but like a thing that was never there to begin with.
They’re both dealing with it.

Summary
The entire apartment has been eggshells, lately. She can’t bring up anything meaningful in conversation without Harry’s jaw clenching, his eyes going hard and blank à la Athena Grant. Can’t talk about Mom, or Bobby. At least now she knows why he’s been pissy when she’d ask about school these past few months. Harry makes sure to steer clear of any discussion about their actual lives; May walks the line, dipping a toe into the murky waters sometimes just to see if he’ll still bite. He does, every time, and she backs off like a coward.
So it’s this— sitting on the couch with popcorn. Half invested in watching The Bachelor and half invested in watching Buck repeatedly frog a single line of navy blue crochet. Glancing at Harry every time something funny happens just to catch him smile. It’s pretending things are okay.
Or, May and Buck are at a loss with Harry's anger, and Eddie is more than happy to lend a hand. And a set of boxing gloves.

Eddie has always been able to read Buck, but when the light goes out it's suddenly too dark to make out the text.
Buck is just reading Wikipedia.

Summary
Buck feels raw when he wakes up. His face hurts and he’s got a pounding headache. He’s overwarm and not alone. Something moves on his arm—
He slaps at it blindly.
“Ow, fuck! What the hell, man?” Eddie whisper-shouts, startled but still endearingly mindful of the quiet sanctity of the bunk room.
“I thought you were a bug,” Buck croaks.
Buck is just trying to do what Bobby told him to do. It might require an extended bug metaphor to get there.

Summary
In which Ilya comes back to room fourteen ten.
Canon divergent from, and following directly after, s01e01 when Ilya leaves Shane's hotel room. Contains Ilya being a provocative dick, Shane being unable to resist rising (ha) to it, too much discussion of chicken, some David Attenborough, Shane negotiating his feelings and interpersonal relationships with all his classic suavity and skill, and as much sex as two nineteen year old professional athletes can fit into one evening.

Summary
Ilya clicked his tongue, feeling lightheaded. “No, no. Pants stay on.”
Hollander’s jaw tightened. His flush was past pink now, bordering on a scandalized red. It had crept down his neck and was visible underneath the open collar of his shirt. “You can’t be serious.”
Ilya shifted so that his foot was planted more firmly against the mattress, offering leverage. “They are ruined already.” Then, leery, “Get on my lap, Hollander.”

Summary
Shane looks up from where he’d been dissociating, staring at the design of the wood in the bar top. He’s face to face with the bartender, a shockingly tall, curly haired blond man. He’s wearing a sleek black button-up buttoned halfway, exposing his chest and a chain that Shane could just imagine dangling in his face. He raises his eyebrows, as if waiting for him to respond– Shane has to do a double take to make sure that he’s even talking to him at all.
“Me?” Shane points to himself.
The blond turns to look at the rest of the bar. “Is no one else here but you. So…”
Or Shane meets a handsome bartender after being stood up on a date. Bathroom shenanigans ensue.

Summary
"Hello?" he says to the clothing rack, and wow, okay, so this is his life now, he's a guy who talks to clothing racks in public, that's who he is, that's what he's doing.
"Hi," says the clothing rack again.
Buck peers between the hangers to get a better look—oh. Oh, there's a very small human in there, blinking up at him from inside what appears to be a nest made entirely of women's cardigans.
So that's good, he's not losing his mind, that's a relief.
"Um," Buck says. "Hi?"
The kid has curly hair and big eyes and crutches propped up against the inside of the rack, and he's looking at Buck like Buck is the weird one here, as if Buck is the one who's chosen to make a home inside a department store display instead of living in a house like a normal person.
Or,
Buck trips over a clothing rack and into a sexuality crisis. -

Summary
“Eddie,” Maddie says. “I know our kids are different ages, and our situations are different, but — it kind of sounds like you need something else besides your kid and work, too.”
Well, I used to have a best friend, Eddie thinks, then pushes the thought away. “I … I have other things. But Chris and the job are definitely the most central right now.”
"You know, you can’t put yourself last all the time, Eddie.” She laughs a little. “Straight from my therapist’s mouth to your ears! Ooh — you know what? I’ve got a great idea.”
“Oh?”
“You should come to book club. It’s something I do with my parent friends. We take turns hosting, and it’s my turn!”
Sometimes the best part about reading is getting to learn more about yourself.
