“You ever have a Ring Pop?” JJ asked him.
Pope shook his head, “No. My parents aren’t really big on candy. Are they any good?”
JJ smiled at him, took the Ring Pop from his hand, and got on his knee in front of Pope’s swing. Pope laughed and blushed.
“Pope,” JJ said in a deep voice, mocking an adult, “will you make me the happiest man in the world and take this Ring Pop?”

Summary
Soap knew he wasn’t a saint. Far from it, in fact. He spent his youth making a myriad of bad decisions that led him to where he was now— too deep into organized crime to leave without a bullet through his skull. The Shadow Company wasn’t bad, per se. It put food on his table and kept a roof over his head. Plus, it had been so long since Soap had seen himself as anything but a dispensable tool that the thought of being human never even crossed his mind these days. He was a good asset, and that kept him alive and in good standing— the only thing that mattered in the Company.
