Summary
The woman over her cast her eyes aside and over her shoulder, obviously looking for any sign of danger. “I believe we are in the clear.” She murmured, voice low and deep. The sound on made the smaller woman’s stomach flip.
“Yeah, I didn’t expect we’d have to hide from being in here too long.” Ava replied, getting Beatrice’s attention back onto her face. Her anxiety rose from the little smirk that played on the other woman’s mouth. Ava just wanted to reach out and capture that moment with her lips, let that smirk vividly indent itself into her mouth.
“Well, I couldn’t just let your artistic hands be put into handcuffs because we stayed after hours.”

Summary
This is how Ava dies. Not at the hands of a psychotic caretaker with delusions of saviourhood. Not trapped in an ancient, collapsing cave under the Vatican. Not at the hands of a deranged maybe-angel or his army of demons. She’s going to die here, pressed against the peeling wallpaper in their tiny apartment and deliriously happy, with her hands tangled in Bea’s hair and her legs hooked around Bea’s hips and her skin hot under Bea’s mouth.

Summary
Because it turns out the Halo can want things now, sort of. Not the way a human would, with thoughts or motivation or articulable desires. The Halo wants things the way a tree wants water and shoves a taproot through flagstone to get it, which is all well and good for the tree, but less so for the idiot trying to keep her patio intact. Unfortunately for Ava, she’s both the idiot and the taproot. The flagstone is her dignity. The water – for reasons becoming rapidly and unavoidably apparent – is Beatrice.
