“God, I’m so sorry Sydney. Fuck, I shouldn’t have called you.” He stutters out, getting stuck on the words. He wipes at his face weakly with his sleeve. Not that it helps. He starts lifting the phone from his ear, but-
“No, no- Carmen, don’t you dare hang up. Listen, it’s okay. I’m headed over there right now, okay?” He hears her speaking away from the phone, and another voice on the line. He feels shame puddle around him. He’s had thoughts, before. Remembers planning everything out just so nobody would ever have to find his body. At least, nobody who knew or cared about him. He’d eventually be found down an alleyway, and someone else’s day would be ruined. Not Mikey’s, not Sugar’s day.
Never Sugar’s day. Not now, especially not now. She deserved better than this. He’s an asshole. God, Sydney deserves better. A better partner, a better fucking friend. Not that she needs him. She’s a fucking flame. He never wants to stop watching her. Never wants to put out her fire.
He won’t see her again, he realizes, if he dies. If he fucking dies like a dumbass, he will never get to make her laugh. Won’t rebuild her trust in him that little fucking bit.

“‘Sup!” Finn grinned.
It was then that Jermaine noticed the necklace around Finn’s neck. It looked kind of like a sword made of wood. How long had Finn been wearing that?
He asked the question out loud, only for Finn’s face to stutter and his fingers to wrap around the sword.
“That’s Fern,” BMO said.
Ah.
Jermaine’s heard about Fern.
(Or, after their treehouse gets destroyed and Fern dies, Finn and Jake move in with Jermaine, and Jermaine finally gets some bro-time with Finn)

“So. That’s it, then.”
The words fall flat in the silent bookshop. It is oppressively hot, the August heat soaking through the brick to creep through the bookshelves and settle at the back of a neck, under a lip.
Aziraphale nods, a jerky motion, feeling like a puppet with cut strings limping to a drunk puppeteer’s commands. He’s nodding too much, too fast, anything to keep from looking up, from making eye contact.
He is seconds away from shattering. He needs to be alone for that.
