Summary
I love you, he thinks, and those words hit him with such a force the air is punched out of his chest.
“Just imagine all the places I’ll go,” Lumine continues, “Guili Plains, Khaj-Nisut, Mt. Kanna—.”
Kunikuzushi presses his lips against Lumine’s because he’s young and foolish and being in love is a little like sipping on starlight. Lumine laughs into his mouth and Kunikushi just kisses her harder, and for a moment, the world is exactly how it should be.
(And then, thousands of miles away, across the ocean in a small rural Inazuman village, a daughter jumps on her father and rips out his throat.)
So violent was my grief, they almost sent you back.

Summary
Why did he turn, you ask?
Well, I can give you many answers. Perhaps he thought the Lord of the Dead was playing a trick on him. Perhaps he heard the girl trip and fall. Perhaps he heard nothing at all.
But none of that matters, does it, darling listener.
Because no matter how it comes to be, the story will always go like this: the girl dies, and the boy turns around to look.
And so, it will pass, but love, isn’t it heavy?

Summary
The Not-Man’s lips pull back and his eyes sharpen like ice. Lumine watches with a lick of satisfaction. Good. His arrogance is misplaced in her presence.
“I don’t care about your terms,” he spits out, “only if you can fulfill mine. They say that you offer power for a soul. I will trade you a soul for my power.”
Lumine blinks and for the first time in her ageless lifespan, she is taken off guard. She takes in the Not-Man again, his short stature, his frowning lips, and his dark eyes. And from deep in her belly, it bubbles forward and Lumine tips her head back to laugh.
A demon, an android, and a soul. Or rather, the lack thereof.

“I suppose I missed you,” she admits, squeezing his hand. “I’m happy you’re back.”
Childe laughs softly, nuzzling into the crook of Lumine’s neck. The sound is both familiar and foreign, like a language learned in childhood but faded slowly with time. She lets the sounds swallow her, drowning herself in the cadence of his merriment, relearning the round sonority and the smooth notes.
“I wasn’t gone for that long.”
We can’t have it all, but maybe we can have a sliver.

Summary
“You know,” the shopkeeper says thoughtfully, looking at the stone in Lumine’s hand with a strange interest. “There’s a story behind that jewel too.”
“Oh, really?” Lumine gives her a strained smile because she sees Mona through the corner of her eye inspecting another glass orb that’ll probably cost another month of groceries. But Lumine doesn’t voice that because she has this thing with conflict where she will bend over backwards for literally any person in any situation to avoid it. This includes strangely spooky shopkeepers who seem a little too delighted to have a potential customer.
“They say that a God is trapped in there.”
There’s a tale that goes like this: there once was a God who challenged their Creator.
Except Lumine is neither a God, nor a Creator, nor a hero, ruler, sage, or some other Jungian archetype. No, Lumine is a burnt-out college kid who’s somehow managed to keep it together just enough to convince everyone she’s not on the verge of a mental breakdown every 4.7 seconds.
Oh, and also God is a gremlin.
Suffice to say, this tale is screwed.

It's supposed to be a clear-cut, foolproof plan; train the unsuspecting, naive girl into Princess Lumine, charm her supposed twin brother Prince Aether into thinking she's his long-lost twin, grab the rewards, and they all live happily ever after.
Yet the girl certainly has a mind of her own, and Childe's not one to shy away from the face of a challenge.
