Summary
Knocking a guy over with an inflatable pool and nearly giving him a concussion is probably not the best flirting technique in the world, but if there's anyone who can pull it off, it's Charles.

Bookmarker's Notes
Even if the premise doesn't sound like the sort of thing you'd be interested in, if you have even the most remote interest in Charles being a total cutie, read this. Charles is so cute in this piece that I can't even begin convey how cute he is. It's better if you just read it and see for yourself.

Summary
Charles has a terrible habit of multitasking, and that is probably why he absentmindedly tells the pizza man that he loves him when hanging up.
Then the pizza man says it back. And Charles is pretty much smitten from there.

Bookmarker's Notes
I am in actual mourning that there is not more if this. I finished it, then went back to the start and read it again. Twice. I suspect I will read it yet again after finishing up this rec. The characterization, premise, pacing writing--its all perfect, and charming as heck. The author has a real knack for getting the reader to really *feel* along with the characters. Plus, I'm a sucker for fics where that whole "this person is distractingly gorgeous"-thing comes as a surprise.
This is an AU, so even if you don't know the characters or series, give it a shot if you're looking for something short (like, so short; I am so sad about how short) and cute. It's a little gem of a piece. -

Summary
Erik is the grumpiest, most foul tempered worker at Stark industries. His grumpiness is the stuff of legends.
So it's obviously the talk of the office when Erik is being made to go to the company party and he's bringing his husband. There's rumors flying round about how much of a masochist or equally antisocial bastard Erik's husband must be to put up with him. Others think he must be a meek mouse perhaps bullied by Erik.
What they weren't expecting was the confident, charming, adorable and unbelievably nice Charles that turns up on Erik's arm. What they certainly weren't expecting was how much Erik obviously adores his husband and how happy he is to let others see this.

I'm a sucker for AUs, awesome characterization, and outsider-perspective-type-things, but even if the piece had none of that (which it has all of), it has the way it's written. Which is bleeping hilarious. There are just so many charming lines and details that I'm not even sure what to do about it. I tend to read on my phone, where the little e-reader app has a highlighter function, & highlight things that are so funny, well-written, interesting, or otherwise stand-up that I want to be sure I'll be able to easily find them. I think, like, half this fic is highlighted. Go give it a read. You don't even have to be familiar with the fandom or ship. Just dive in and enjoy the finely crafted...everything, really.

Summary
Bilbo Baggins led a rather peaceful life, thank you very much, until an old acquaintance decided to turn it upside down, and he found himself agreeing to take a job that’s… let’s say not exactly up his alley, and might eventually cost him a little more than his treasured cozy lifestyle. Who would have thought tutoring a slightly menacing monarch’s more than slightly overbearing nephew could prove to be such an adventure?

Bookmarker's Notes
I first found this work when I was holed up sick and looking for a read good enough that I wouldn't even want to move. I've read this twice in as many days (and it's novel-length), so, mission accomplished. I mean, it completely broke my heart multiple times, and I had to keep reminding myself that the author promised a happy ending, but mission totally more than accomplished.
This is another one of those pieces that I'd recommend even if you're not in the fandom. It's an AU, so no prior knowledge of the characters or their original world is needed. It's just a really, really good book. Give it a read.

Bookmarker's Notes
The narrative construction of this fic is fascinating. Even if you aren't interested in the fandom or ship, I'd suggest giving this piece a read for the storytelling alone. You'll need to be familiar with the original story, but no real familiarity with the characters is needed (just know that the author nails them).
Extremely cool narrative construction aside, the characterization, writing, story, romance and everything else is absolutely fabulous. Plus, this story fixes all of the hideously depressing things I loathed in the original book. I am so in favor of fixing hideously depressing things. Give it a read!
