Tsukasa had always thought that, since Rui was a small kid, he would always have to protect Rui. Even if they grew big to adults, he would still stand in front of Rui protectively, because Rui had always been a small and timid boy.
Then Tsukasa started to notice change when they were in their third year of middle school.

ruikasa childhood friends, best friends even! but tsukasa doesn't like that rui is growing taller than him when tsukasa used to be taller.

“what— of course i do!” tsukasa yells defensively, holding rui closer to him. rui’s returned to nuzzling happily in the crook of his neck. “good, i’ve been saving,” he purrs casually, back to his dazed self.
“—you’ve what? where are you even getting the money? don’t tell me you’ve been robbing banks! you can’t get arrested before we get married!”
“you wouldn’t marry me if i were a criminal?” rui mumbles sadly with his head raised, added with the saddest expression he could pull off in the sleepy daze he was in.
—
tsukasa finds himself.. in another odd situation, as per usual. one he quite literally, couldn’t get out of. rui, who was busy being fast asleep, clearly had no intention of letting him go.
