The chatter in the room immediately quieted as Yae Miko stopped just inside of the doorway. The small smile against her features was relatively impassive, though there was a flash of mischief in her eyes that Venti did not miss as she eyed the gathered students.
“So, is this our turnout for this year? Not bad, but I’ve seen better.”
“Thank goodness I’ve already filled one position for a stagehand, otherwise who knows if enough people would volunteer?” She stepped away from the door and gestured with her hand for whoever was behind her to enter.
A moment later, a scruffy-looking boy followed her into the room, hands buried in his black zip-up hoodie and looking very much like he wished he was anywhere else, judging by his refusal to look at anything but the floor.
“Everybody, this is Xiao. He will be joining us to help for the entire process of bringing this play to life.”
Venti felt a little bolt of panic in his chest.
Because that was the same Xiao who had just recently been caught fighting another student. The same Xiao who had a reputation for not giving a single shit about anyone or anything in school.

The day the Child Protective Services come to Venti's home when he's 11 years old, he's sure of only one thing : Xiao betrayed him and ruined everything.
They were never able to clear things up between them and did not see each other for 6 years.(Just a little friends to i don't really know what to lovers with autistic Xiao (because I said so) and PTSD/eating disorders Venti (because i said so too.))
