The killings started nearly two months ago, without warning. One day, the local blacksmith rode out to the swamps and never came back. Thinking the usual—stray necrophages, rabid dogs—others went looking one-by-one, then in pairs and trios, then in a group ten strong. They all rode to the swamps intending to deal with whatever pack had formed, only they, too, never returned. So, the village did what any would at that point. They put out a contract.

“I just saw ya on TV,” Atsumu said, because he was a very smart man.
Before he could react, the front of his shirt was being grabbed and he was pulled into an alley.
