Summary
The heat of July is too much to bear when Satoko has just lost everything.
She lives as peacefully as she can without her brother by her side, but the melancholy and monotony of the situation has left her in a stasis, like a cicada nymph underground. Her friends do the best they can to be by her side when things simultaneously feel like too much and too little, but they're unsure of how to help her move forward.
Summer slowly trudges along as Satoko's purgatory continues. The world seems to be becoming duller and duller, but a rare tranquil night of rest helps to soothe her nerves. That is until a mysterious girl interrupts her slumber and decides to stay with her indefinitely.
Satoko knows that Rika is dangerous. She can tell, from the aura she exudes to the things she says, that there is something off about this innocent-seeming girl. But something about Rika seems so eerily familiar in a way that's much bigger than Satoko, and she knows she can't leave her alone. And having an opportunity to share her home with someone is too comforting for her to refuse.
