Summary
When Knight-Commander John "Soap" MacTavish is kidnapped from the castle by a famous assassin known as the Ghost and his strange Fae companion, he's ushered into a world that he never knew existed, just beyond the city's borders. Thrown into the midst of a brewing revolution, Soap realizes that the world he's known is a carefully constructed box, built to keep the truth out and the people inside safe and clueless. But the glass is beginning to crack, and Soap only has so much time to decide if knowing the truth is worth changing everything, or if the man behind the mask is worth the risks he's asking Soap to take.

Summary
“You don’t want to leave,” Ghost tells him. “You just don’t want to go back.”
“Isn’t that the same thing?” Soap runs a hand through his hair. The tips of his ears have gone red. They should leave soon, but Ghost won’t move until Soap does. “I don’t want to go back. I’m tired.”
“If you go,” he decides, “I’d follow you.”

Price pulls carefully at the cuffs, ensuring that they aren’t too tight, but not weak enough that he’ll snap them on accident.
Gaz gives him an assessing look. “Good?”
“Peachy.”

Summary
It’s not what he had expected, this level of gentleness. If Soap’s being honest, it makes him want to push. Everyone has a snapping point, and he wants to dig his fingers into the carefully crafted politeness of Ghost’s facade and break it.

Summary
“Fine,” he groans. “Fine, bodyguard, whatever. Do I at least get to pick? Can it be Soap?”
His mother raises an eyebrow. “Can your human friend come with you to a werewolf convention to protect you from being taken advantage of by other werewolves?”
Gaz doesn’t bother replying to that, settling on spitefully sipping his tea in silence.

“Well,” she mumbles. “How do you want to do this?”
Valeria sucks in an inhale, audible even over the phone. “You’re saying yes? Fantastic.”
“That doesn’t answer my question,” Kate points out, biting back her own grin.
“You’re in bed, yeah?” Valeria asks. “What are you wearing?”

Summary
Kate scrubs a hand over her face, ignoring how it probably fucks up her makeup. It’s like getting stuck in a whirlpool headed straight towards a garbage disposal: she knows exactly what’s about to happen, has been part of it happening a dozen times now, and she’s still going to jump when the blades start moving.
“Lock the fucking door,” she gets out through gritted teeth, pinching the bridge of her nose between her fingers.

Summary
It shouldn’t be possible for a person to be so beautiful. Ghost’s hair is thick, curling just long enough to brush his forehead. His eyelashes are pale, reflecting the light from the hallway. Soap studies the bridge of his nose, the way the scar on his face wraps around the side of it, ending just below his eye.
“Take a picture,” Ghost says, snapping him out of his reverie.

There’s really not enough room in a confessional booth for two adult men.
That’s the first thing that crosses Rodolfo’s mind when he opens the curtain on the other side of the wooden booth. The second thought is: really? Here?

Summary
Price waits in the middle of the room, observing Gaz calmly. He doesn’t want to say anything wrong and make Gaz think this is unwelcome, but he doesn’t want to overwhelm him either. This is obviously something that Gaz has kept private this far for a reason, and Price knows he has a tendency to jump in headfirst, regardless of the potential consequences.

Summary
All that being said, Gaz doesn’t like his senses. He doesn’t even like being a sentinel. Sure, it made his job a lot easier when he did have a guide, but he doesn’t need one in order to feel complete, or whatever the pamphlets say.
He thinks he’s handling it fine, has been handling it fine, until he meets Price.
Price, who takes one look at him and asks, “Where’s your damn guide?”

Summary
Normally, Soap doesn’t get to keep people this long. He’s started to think of the 141 as his: his people, his family. It’s not how it typically goes. More often, people let him use them for what he needs, and they part ways amicably enough. Some of them want more, want him, but they never actually want to know him. They just want another orgasm at the hands of an incubus.
He had learned his lesson the hard way: don’t feed off people you care about.

Summary
It’s all part of collecting data, logistics. He’s good at it. Ghost has been called a lot of things– hypervigilant, paranoid, insane– but he’s never been called stupid. Soap likes this, and Ghost likes doing it for him. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters.

Summary
Gaz smiles warmly, sliding his hand down Price’s shoulder and pressing even closer. “You could work off some tension. Clear your head, you know?”
“Do you want to fuck in my office?” Price asks bluntly. He sounds unsurprised, and Gaz doesn’t know if that bodes well or poorly for his chances here.
“Well, if you’re offering.”

Summary
The second time that he and Ghost hook up, Soap comes away with a trail of bruises down his collarbone, across his throat, and one on the arch of his hip bone. He stares at them in the mirror the next morning, pressing his fingers into each one. It’s like searching out meaning in constellations, remembering the feeling of Ghost biting along his skin.
